Strike or No strike

The state of Maharashtra looks to be in a bad state with the prolonged strike of university and college teaching and non-teaching staff. With all the events happening in the state I hope everyone realises that in the cat and mouse game everyone will loose something or the other at the end of the day. Of course politicians and members of parliament have nothing to loose as has always been the case.

They have always been the exceptional humans who being illiterate create obstacles for the literate and people involved in spreading literacy! When the central government shows no hesitation is sanctioning the 6th pay commission and increasing the salary of university lecturers and professors what does the state government of Maharashtra gain from posing as a hurdle? Their effort to distribute the money poured in by Dr. Manmohan Singh government into the pockets of school teachers and others looks like a very miserable idea to please and pacify all sections of the educational system in the state.

A lecturer at college or university level has to painstakingly give numerous exams to get an increment in the first place. On top of that they have to declare strike to obtain what is essentially theirs, not to mention that they will have to cope up with the time lost to complete their syllabus within the prescribed date. Students will have to attend extra classes and classes on holidays. While the entire country rejoices holiday periods Maharashtra will witness students folking to classes to make up for something born out of the logicless and undisciplined ideologies of the state government.

Isn’t it appropriate that the university staff gets paid better? If they are to be considered on par with school teachers then why are they required to give multiple exams and obtain higher qualifications? Is the trouble of obtaining a PhD worth it in such situations wherein the PhD holder has to beg and drag to get the rightful returns? This kind of atrocious behaviour from the people on chair can lead to tremendous amount of degradation in the educational standard. While intellectual teachers of the university might prefer to join private organisations n companies to save the trouble of strike and partake in the privileged increment scheme employed by the private sector, the educational system will be flooded with non-creative, incompetent and morose teachers who lack the capacity to pull their student audience and transport them into a magical world.

Is this the beginning of the end? Is this what leads to an intellectually dead civilization? Are we at the threshold of disaster of a different kind? Questions hang in mid air... unanswered.. indefinite!

Strike is the only option left with these university teachers when government is treating them like school teachers. No body particularly the teachers are not fond of strike if government will provide them facilities of a university teacher.

No matter how much one may sympathise with the condition of the qualified teaching community,It is the students who suffer in the end. Education is not about completing a syllabus.I really wonder when this situation will improve..

This situtaion will neither improve overnight nor will it improve like the stock market on its own... we as young ppl need to take the initiative to go out there and make a difference.. not only for us but for our coming generations...

The situation was never created overnight too.Matters like salaries, fees etc should be decided and finalized before a particular academic year begins and not during the classes. I appreciate your optimism but honestly there is nothing the ”younger generation” which i assume in this case is the student community can do about this particular situation. If they do go out all it will lead to is a never ending cycle of protests..

I m not pessimitic nor am i a prophet of doom, I m just a person who wishes things could be sorted out in a logical way. We live in a land where Shashi Tharoor was accused of disrespecting the national anthem despite his contributions to the country.. we question his patriotism..though i have not aware of the contributions of Panda. However Jai Ho!!! youngistan may your belief guide you..
