I wonder when the terrorists attacked the Trident and Tak in Mumbai anybody of them knew that there was a entire girls facility right under their nose! I guess the ferocious terrorists didn’t utilize their analytical skills nor their mapping devices properly enough to identify a possible hostage facility right behind the Trident and in close proximity to the Taj. Wonder if the monsters in “versace” would have spared this golden opportunity and let go of a smooth bail out option as the S.N.D.T.Women’s university hostel.
While the students on a calm evening where back from dinner in their secluded and dingy rooms someone shouted out that there had been firing somewhere around. Every ear became alert to the comment and the television room crowded with almost 200 girls squeezing in between to witness the massive and horondous hostage and terrorist situation right around the corner.
While the senior students tried to make sense of the situation at hand and ease the terror-struck under-graduate pupils who were under the psychosomatic feel of death encroaching one thing didn’t go without notice that the hostel had no warden to confront and comfort them in such a risky circumstance! The incident which took place on the eve of 26th November 2008 might have left a sense of insecurity in the young minds away from home and certainly away from love, sympathy or for that matter empathy but till date there are no signs of the warden in question.
Various students where falling ill out of tension and nervousness in the hostel during the four days for which high red alert was declared in the surrounding area of the attack. After a few days when the entire chaos was under control of the police and the NSG commandos the students decided to talk to the higher authorities of the university about the negligence shown on their part. As they entered the Registrar’s office who is also the Controller of Exams, Mrs. Madhu Madan, she gravely welcomed the terror struck students. The moment one of the students tried to explain the confusions and problematic situation in the hostel which was left at the mercy of Providence she was successfully shut up by the registrar by her excited comment that her husband was on his way from office when the incident took place and he was right outside Trident when the firing was on.
I wonder if she realizes that the point of argument here is not if her husband was safe, the entire issue of dismay here is whether a superintendent in the hostel is necessary or no. The manner in which the authorities argue to wash their latrine clean is commendable. I guess when politicians say and betray the mob (I use the word mob because a mob has no brain)it cant be forgiven but the educational system going back from its word is a sign of degeneration of system which has taken centuries to evolve and attain a reputable position in the world.
Can we live on the hope that someday another terrorist attack will ultimately provoke the authoritarians to arrange a warden for the hostel? When will institutions stand up and admit their mistakes? When will they call in for a time of change? If change is the only constant object in life then where is the societal change which should have uprooted such irresponsible and unconditionally senseless and sensitivityless behaviour?
Can our nation as a whole never realise the gravity of a situation untill and unless we are under seige and immovable captivity? Questions linger in thin air.
